I'd like to explain a little more about what's influencing me to lean towards unique customization...

1. Mine's a 76 rubber bumper B. While there isn't one on every corner, they are still plentiful and I wouldn't feel like I was ruining a piece of history. If I had an older model chrome bumper beauty I don't think I'd dream of anything radical.

2. What I want to do really won't be that radical. The only body modifications may be an air dam (which I think most of you aren't opposed to anyway), and Lambo kits for the doors. These mods are easily reversible, as is a custom dash and paintjob.

3. I have no plans on "rodding" it out. I'm not a gearhead and have no desire to pack more engine. Yes, maybe some performance mods (monza exhause, new carbs, shock conversions etc), but nothing alot of you haven't done.

I just want my B to be the only one like it. I love classic cars, but to be honest, I can go into the registrations on this site and find pics of thirty different red MG's that you couldn't tell apart. But please don't think I'm disrespecting the spirit of these remarkable cars. Someday I'd love to have a chrome bumper classic and be able to restore it to look like the day it rolled out of the factory.

I think the concerned folks are expecting you to do the equivalent of converting a Fiero into a Ferrari 348. They have kits for that, too.<G>

As for me, I don't care. As you say, there lots of the rb cars out there.

but WTF is "lambo doors"?

I think lambo doors pivot up and forward. ... I think. At least I see a lot of mustangs around here that have a kit like that.

It's your car.... share some photos of your progress.

The doors may be a bit over the top, but I agree it's your car and there are plenty of them just like it out there. So do it however you like! :)

I'm doing some thinking on mine also . . . now that I've found it's not originally red . . . drat. I'm looking at what can be smoothed up a bit and modernized perhaps . . . I don't know. Just thinking. Tonight I sanded the pedals down and painted them. I'm painting them back flat black -- right or wrong color?

You've probably seen my last post now, but again I stress the need to get her running first. Once you log a few miles, you'll begin to bond with the car and get a feel for what she wants. To me, every LBC I've ever known has a personality...... and if you know one long enough.. a soul. Now that's a bit sacrilege, but it's true in my case. I grew up in my 71' B and I will never let her go. She will be passed on to my kid(s) and hopefully beyond. So if you want, customize til you feel like your in touch with the car. However, I think these old girls will not tolerate too much messin' before they speak-up.... and they speak up quite often :)
