I'd like to know what you all think of the new MGF...?

It's an MG, but it's new...

My personal take is that I don't care for it. New doesn't have much to do with it. I think the car is ugly. I did not care for the TR7 either. Although I've never seen one in life I do like the RV8.

I love it!!!!!!!! It and the RV8 are totally responsible for the earlier models doubling in price. I will never forget when the RV* was showned, the price of an earlier MG doubled. The MGR took the record at the salt flats in it's class last year. Then when Beamer took it and ran with it . Well, you know the story. A 63 B sold at aution last year for 20k. I just sold a 70 roaster for 14k. A ruber bumper B just sold at aution for 17K. Like I said I LOVE IT.

The increase in B value is a consideration. The other side of the coin is that more and more manufacturers are making the wannabees. Honda has one now too..the s2000 convertible. I don't like it for myself but as long as they are around, the real thing seems more and more popular (the B). Personally, I would prefer to see Honda remake the 600.

Unless you're a computer programmer or a Rover executive there isn't much in the MGF to excite. It sure isn't a sports car. You have to get close and read the logo to tell it from all the other 2 seaters on the market. It's got the same square butt, droopy nose, extreme slant windshield, etc. etc. etc. The interior is also standard issue: Molded plastic dash and instrument panel fascia, slippery vinyl-covered steering wheel loaded with a face-crushing airbag ("don't lean too far forward, children!"). Rover is proud of their new continuous variable transmission (CVT) run off a bunch of computer buttons on the steering wheel. Push the "DRIVE" button and a computer keeps the RPM steady with automatic small-step shifing. But suppose you suddenly want a sports car...Just push the "SportCVT" button and you can pushbutton shift manually (the computer is programmed for 6 speeds). You can downshift, but if the computer disagrees with you (say, if it thinks you are going to over-rev the system) it "declines"...the transmission tells you "NO!" Anyone who calls this a sports car either doesn't understand the concept or is a car salesman. I doubt that many MGF owners can point to the oil dipstick in their engine bay. In fairness I'll admit I don't like any of the plastic bumpered, computer tuned and operated 90's cars.

I'm with you Vern. They're all just round Jap cars.
