ordered tie-rod ends this winter for my mg - cost @ 15.00 for a set - today had to get a set for my wifes pt cruiser - list price $84.00 each - jobber cost 45 ea

Yeah, I hear you- and so should everyone else who ever dares to whine about the price of MGB parts.
I will agree that the prices are cheap in comparision. But I still argue that if a part is inferior and basically useless, I don't want it even if it's free. I haven't seen as many complaints so hopefully that situation has improved.
the tie-rod i got for the mg were top quaility for $7.50 ea

Well, my mechanic has sourced just as many crap parts for my Passat as I've gotten for my B. It took 3 tries on axles to get ones that would last more than 3000 miles. Quality issues aren't limited to our B's, unfortunately.
I think it is amazing that the price of MG parts has remained about the same as it was in the '70's.
