Wyatt, Describe a mulberry for me. I have a tree in my back
yard that I think is a mulberry, but I'm not sure. It has berrys
on it that are long and purple in color.

If the birds are making long purple streaks of shit on everything nearly vertical and purple splotches on everything horizontal you do indeed have mulberries. That's all I've ever seen they are good for besides staining the crap out of your fingers when you handle them.

well they look like pineapple shaped black raspberries about the size of an M&M peanut...lots of fruit on the trees.. sweet but not as sweet as raspberries. Only the black ones are ripe, not the red ones. You say purple I say black, but purple is about right. I have several trees of them...man, birds,birds,birds.....We will add lots of sugar to the pie.........hope its good.

Lots of Sugar??!! That changes everything. I'll be there by the time the pies cool.

I do indeed have mulberry trees.
They stain everything they touch.
Thanks Wyatt, only the black one are ripe.

We used to have a couple of mulberry trees on our property ... Although they are an aquired taste, they are palatable ... worst part of them though is the yard turned into a purple soup for about a month and the juice seeped into everything ... about a year after I cut them down and the wood had dried they gave me great satisfaction in my fireplace.

My next door neighbor has a mulberry tree. Pain in the ass. The birds get the berries before they are ripe enough to eat, and like JDW says, long purple streaks of shit on everything nearly vertical and purple splotches on everything horizontal. Gotta keep the cars in the garage and the kids in the house 'til the fruit is gone.

Nice wyatt, looks good. I have a mullberry tree and it seems to attract lots of kids. But I guess to be fair there are a number of birds ans squirrels about too. :) I prefer a nice apple pie with some caramel and nuts with lots of cinnamon. Care to make me one and over night it?

Wyatt, I think we are going to head up to Toronto in a couple weeks via Niagra but plan to come back around the lake over your way. Maybe you could have my pie ready then and we will just pop by and pick it up.

OK here is the verdict on the pie...this was a first time for mullberry...it was good, it tasted like a poor mans blueberry. Next time no rurhbarb in it...and the mullberry stems need to be sniped off. All in all a good pie. also, don't forget to add a little corn starch...we forgot this time...kinda runny.

We had a mulberry tree at my childhood home.

We had white aluminum siding.

It was ALWAYS stained....as was my car (which didn't get to use the garage).

I learned to eat many fruit pies thanks to my paternal grandfather, who lived with us from 1957 until he died in 1964.

His favourite was gooseberry....then cherry, apple, peach, apricot, rhubarb, strawberry.....the list goes on.

He didn't like cream pies...and I don;t really care for them either....probably thanks to Grandpa Ingram!

Thanks for bringing these great memories back to me!
