next week is my annual pilgrimage to the isalnd....I will drive the 1950CC balance stage 2 mg to the boat and leave it in hyannis....it is fun to drive it around the cape and see the old men cry and the young girls swoon and elbow their boyfriends....the old men want that car they gave away in college back, and the young girls want that touch of class and raise the standards of their boyfriends a notch or two. If I took it to the island some egomaniac millionnaire might talk me out of it....it is appraised through state farm for 14.5K and I am a sucker of a real big checkbook only to get the next one a v8 roadster in forest green. AGAIN iI APPOLOGIZE FOR MY RUDE ATTITUDE AND CONTEMPTUOUS BEHAVIOUR ....but folks keep in mind with companies like moss and vb and proper MG...why tweek an altenator or fuel pump when you can throw the damn thing away and get a replacement quicker that the cut fingers and swearing and lost driving time in the MG's....breakes, alts, gears, whaterver, if it is broke, replace them and let some one else rebuild them, you need to drive that MG and enjoy the freedom of the drive.

For some people the journey is really the destination!! You are probably not like that, but some of us love to tinker!! Anyway, relax!!!!!!

Nantucket is great, we are going to the Vineyard a few weeks. I agree, that most times it's just easier and better to replace but the tinker in my always wants to try and rebuild myself and figure out how it works, I guess that's part of the fun too.

Chuck Cougill

that's why you gotta have 2 Mgs one to drive and 1 to tinker with

Jul 07, 2003 18:38:32
Gary Lloyd

Didn't somebody just say that!!

Jul 07, 2003 18:43:21
John Moore

I know a limerick about a man from Nantucket, but it can't be cleaned up enough to put on this site. Maybe you'd rather hear about what I accomplished on the Jettup today anyway. ;^)

AWW... SHUT YER YAP! Here's a crappy smiley for you ====> ;o(~

Yeah, I enjoy it when ladies double take the red sports car that sounds so much better than a "tuner's" hog poot-sounding exhaust.
I agree with your view in that I'm not going to live forever, so I want to drive the car now and with that in mind, I buy plenty of parts. But, I also have to know how something works and that I can fix it out in the boonies where I can't get Moss to deliver a part. Harks back to the tugboat days when if you didn't fix it, with what you had, you didn't come home.

From a record sales guy to a construction guy??? Man you are brave!!
I hope this works!! It felt strange!

Hell!! I knew that!! I was teasing you!! You deserved it!! How is that Tonneau???? Of course you can, but it has to be a dark one!!! This is a 'no Budweiser' zone!!

Jul 07, 2003 19:17:46
Chuck Cougill

I usually settle for Cold, myself. I'm not as picky as Gary

Jul 07, 2003 19:18:32
John Moore

LOL!!! You computer geeks! Dark beer any day! The B will be on the road shortly, hope to use the tonneu shortly.

My mentor in mechanics taught me to know why something went wrong before I fixed it. He always told me, "If a man can build it, and it can screw up, you can fix it." I learned on my own to know how it works, why, when, and all the reasons it may not work. I have never hired anything done on a car that I had the equipment, or access to the equipment, to do myself.

Jerry is not wrong in his buying everything new and hiring the work done I would probably do the same thing if I could afford it. Most likely the difference lies in the fact that while I, like most, was 8 to 5 job hopping and looking for some meager security, he had his nose to the grindstone 10 or 12 hours a day and taking financial risks I was afraid to. MY hard work rewarded me with the skills I posses and little more. His rewarded him with a Supermarine Spitfire, live-on boat, and who knows what else. I don't envy that, but I certainly rsepect what went into attaining it and can understand his attitude toward vehicle maintenance.

Hell, I am even a weird construction guy!! John just ain't that bright!! He can't tell the difference!! :o)

He said I was BAAAD last nite Chuck!! Should we let him in??? :o)

Jul 07, 2003 19:32:32

John is always welcome. one of these days I'm gonna have to knock on his door to ask stupid painting questions

Jul 07, 2003 19:43:13
John D. Weimer

I said you were a turd once to, but you seemed to accept that. You should have.

Jul 07, 2003 19:46:20
Gary Lloyd

Well, what can I say?? I like a compliment every once and a while!! :o)

Jul 07, 2003 20:29:08
Gary Lloyd

Yah, I do to, but I just find him kind of rude!! There are ways to say things and 'ways to say things'!!!! I've done a lot of risks in my life, but I sure don't have all the answers!!

Jul 07, 2003 20:39:28
John D. Weimer

I don't see it as rude, I see it as a mannerism that I don't necessarily agree nor disagree with. Not everybody in the world is a sweet little guy that want's everybody to love them.

Jul 07, 2003 20:45:37
Gary Lloyd

You are right there!! Look at me!! :o) I could always say yessir, nosir and be loved, but I just believe what I believe, right or wrong!! You should see some of the e-mails that I get!! :o)

I can understand Jerry somewhat because I have an old Navy buddy that I obsserved going up through the ranks and became a retired millionaire at age 52. He did it honestly, but hated his work and had to encourage himself every morning before starting his day. He laid everthing, I mean Everything, on the line a couple of times a couple of times and his do or die gambles paid of. That plus a drive that most don't posses, a goal that most find unthinkable, and a doggedness beyond reality put him on a 90 foot Yacht near his home in La Jolla.

Jul 07, 2003 21:17:33
Gary Lloyd

Yah, but was it worth it?? I can do just about whatever I want and love what I have done!!

Jul 07, 2003 21:22:51
John D. Weimer

Damn right it was worth it! He's done ONLY what he wanted to for the past 10 years and that's all he'll ever do.

The Cape Islands are great, especially Nantucket. MV is a little over built for my taste. We vacation on Cape Cod every year, and every other year generally try to get out to one of the Islands. Good British Car Club on the Cape as well. They have a nice show on the Hyannis waterfront over Columbus Day week-end.

Dan D (looking for a pre-retirement home on the Cape!)
