Just an opinion, but a used one is not likely to be in much better condition than the one you have. New ones are not all that expensive.

New was about $65 a couple years ago. It should be possible to find a used one, a good one if you are fussy. may have to put new "asbestos" on it, though.

HS4 version is different from HIF version.

But you know what? The HIF version still retains the asbestos in the same place as the HS version does (at least all of them I've ever seen). This means that the asbestos is put out on the edges, where it does the most good for the HS4's outboard float bowls. This is NOT the best place for asbestos with the integral float chambers of the HIF4 carbies.

So last week, when I refitted my aging heat shield, I just attached some self-adhesive heat shield material on as much of the back side of the plate as I could. That, plus the Jet-Hot coated manifold, should cure any tendency towards vapor-lock during our hot Mississippi summers.

,. asbestos,
being a health hazard,.
I would think this other heat shield material is a far better way to go.
is this the same stuff they sell at napa?

Here is a link to the one I bought on eBay:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MGB-SU-CARB-HEATSHIELD_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a10Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem180327664403QQitemZ180327664403QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_500wt_1370

Very nice job. Homemade by the seller and much better than the original!

Don't see the spring purches on the e-bay one maybe the HS-4 version is different. $90 with shipping but it is stainless.

You can use header wrap for insulating the HS4 and HIF heatshields, put in with pop rivets with back up washer, that's pretty much the same thing the new replacment one come with. I also rember someone here selling uprated replacment heat pads, made from something else.
