Hi everyone, I thought it would be a good time to break my silence and introduce myself by saying hello! If it were not for the many contributions of this awesome forum, I would have never completed the two year restoration of the '72 shown below. I stripped the car to the shell and restored everything but the rear end. The car underwent a complete motor refresh and a total OD/gearbox rebuild. I managed to get about 1k miles on her last summer with no problems.
Anyone struggling through a restoration, I just want to encourage you not to give up. The info is out there and the rewards are worth it!

Man! That looks like a nice car. Congrats on your rebuild.
Registered for 2 years without a single comment. Jeez...most can't seem to keep it shut ;) but the help and assistance available is invaluable.
That would be me Scott! :)
John, welcome and that is a nice ride.
Nice work John! I have embarked on my first restoration and am just about down to the shell as well. As the next stages will go slower than the first (budget), I hope I remember how to put her all together again. I have used more ziploc bags for this project than anything else ever. But alas, this forum is so great I know the advice will be there when needed.

I forgot to mention, I could not have done it without the help of Chris Roop and his prompt shipping getting the parts to Alaska. Thanks Chris!
This is what I started with, I bought the car in Wasilla, Alaska, you know, land of Sarah.
Nice restoration John. Feels good to do your own work and especially feels better when its done.

Hey John!!! Nice B. I got your message. Im in the Fairbanks area. We will have to get together this year and cruise Alaska. I am waiting for some parts to finish my rebuild. I should have everything ready to go by the melt. I couldnt have made it through all my projects without this site and the awsome members here. Let me know when a good time to call is to chat. Mikek
An Alaskan drive sounds fun as soon the three feet of snow melts in my yard! Micheal - Expect a call soon, I'd love to cruise when the roads melt.
When restoring an MG, I've found four things needed to finish a good restoration
1. Lots of time
2. Lots of Money
3. Lots of Patience (especially your wife's)
4. And did I mention lots of Money?

John, welcome to the forum. So, two years registered, two years rebuild and not once on the forum to ask a question on how or what to do. THAT, man, is hard to do. Way to go, John on an excellent restoration, your car looks mint. Oh, and you mentioned that you got about 1k in last summer, do you guys even get summer up there? Everyone thinks we're the Great White North, but I think you got us beat, lol. Enjoy your B every chance you get.
John, welcome! How long is the driving season up there? And what was an MG doing there in the first place:eyeroll:
Steve
Welcome from Alabama."
I purchased my car in Alabama, only reason my car is here is becasue Uncle Sam shipped it here for me. I have been waiting for almost 3 years since I was stationed here to get that perfect Alaskan drive, haha. As John stated...when the three feet of snow melts. My goal is an Arctic Cirlce drive. Not too much to see. I just want a picture of the car and me in front of the sign, haha. I wonder ho many MGB have been that far north? Mikek
Welcome, John! I bought my '71 GT in Moose Pass for $1K in 1999. Lived in Seward for 25 years. This was my daily driver, too. When the 4X4's were in the ditch, I tended to stay home - but otherwise I did really well with it in the ice and snow, and ice & snow.
The picture was at Forth of July Creek, across Resurrection Bay from Seward.
I'm going to Larsen Bay in April to work at Icicle.
Thanks everyone, we get about may to october to drive a classic and thats it, unless you wanta go sliding around. The color is early BRG GN25 in RM brand paint. It turned out a bit lighter than I wanted but I love it. I had serveral missing parts and got DPO'd big time. In the photo posted above, you can see where he cut the radiator mount and installed a late model radiator, then put angle iron and mounted a fan motor. Ebay saved me when came to missing parts. The PO didn't know it had OD and I didn't know until I towed it home. That gave me a little more motivation to get started!

Hello from Anchorage, Alaska I would also like to go on that or something like that ride.
Congratulations John, excellent work on your car. I like your car color and I think you did a tastefuly done restoration.
Now you get to enjoy the rewards of all that work.
Yes and my wife is getting mad about the time and money I spend on OUR Bs. I have been working hers now for about 3yrs. There is one photo of it in the photos 1972 red.
Hi,
I couldn't stand it any longer, after a year and a half of visiting the MG Experience I had to register today after seeing another Ak. MGB. Nice car John, when passing through Wasilla, look me up.
Dennis in the Valley
Thanks Dennis, I be sure to contact you on a warmer day!

*Jeeze* Where were you guys when I was there?
Well I had to post so that two different guy's named Dan Wood would be on the same thread. I have two brother's in law in AK. Skip is in Anchorage and Scott is the Catholic priest in Dillingham. Only P/U trucks between them but Scott has a Piper Cherokee to fly. With less than 50 miles of paved roads over there aren't many sports cars.
