I got my first pay check for the year and it was more than it should have been. I'm a teacher and I'm at the point on the pay scale in which I only advance every 5 years. So, I thought I had one more year before I'd advance a step. Thinking the district made a mistake, I called to check it out. No mistake, I moved up a step. So, I only have two more steps left and I'm topped out--that will take 10 years. But, it was a nice surprise to start my year off.

What a nice Bonus. Teaching is a very hard profession to undertake.

Takes a special kind of person to be a teacher. Sadly we have too many teachers that are not this kind of person here in Louisiana. Congrats on the raise!

Thank you for your kind words. It is a difficult profession, but very rewarding. The up's outweigh the down's by far.

Steve,
My father was a plumbing teacher, in our town, he had a great turnover of his students. that went into the business, in a time when it was not considered a well paying job!,
I sat through one of his classes and was amazed at his teaching manner. He would allow the students to ask any question at all, whether it be about money, girls, jobs, family etc. for the first 1/2 to 3/4 of the class then he would say okay, now it is my turn, and time for you to listen. It didnt hurt that he had a scottish accent mind you. With changes to the educational structure, he found it too confining and restrictive to teach anymore and he left the profession, he is still remembered in this town as being a teacher and that was at least 35yrs ago?
Now that my father is no longer with us, 5yrs now, it brings a sense of pride to me that my father managed to make a mark as a teacher.

I hope your teaching experience will be rewarding for many years to come.

The movie "Dangerous Minds" comes to mind when I think of teachers. Congratulations Steve

Great news!

I agree - teaching is such a tough thing, and something I could never EVER do. And I come from a long line of teachers (my dad, my maternal grandmother, my paternal great-grandmother, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins). I have ZERO patience for ineptitude and ignorance (not to mention smart-assedness and arrogance), so it would not have been an ideal career choice for me. :)
