Folks, I realize we recently addressed the issue of two-eared knockoff spinners at length, but I'm considering the octagons for minilite replicas. The only means I see for removing or tightening them is the metal wrench that's available with the optional sheath. No hammers here!
For those with the octagons, does the wrench do the job without damaging the spinners?
Thx!

When you say "The only means I see for removing or tightening them is the metal wrench that's available with the optional sheath" do you mean the only acceptable means for you? You are aware of the octagonal spanner wrench and hammer? Just making sure.
I should state the only means of which I am aware is the wrench advertised in Moss, VB, Brit-tek, length appx 26 inches which offers increased leverage...also offered for the two-eared spinner.
I use the original short-handled wrench that came with my 68 Roadster. Sometimes I have to bang it with a hammer, but usually I can just jump down on it. Sounds crude but works fine and the octagon spinners are not damaged in the process.

There is the wooden wrench that some people have great luck with. There is the shot filled rubber dead fall hammer as well. The minilights look awesome with the eared spinners! There are options out there.

What's the issue??
Carl and Blake, this particular topic deals exclusively with the octagonal spinners. One cannot simply knock them off with a hammer and to my knowledge the wooden wrench is available only for the two-eared spinner.
The question is, does using the metal octagon knockoff wrench blemish the octagon spinner?
Art addressed this specific issue in his post above, expressing no problems.
When I first bought my '73, it came with Octagons, an octagonal spanner about 12 to 16 inches long, and a 4 lb hammer. It was very obvious (on the spanner handle) that the hammer had been vigorously applied. The knockoffs were slightly scarred, but not to the point of ugly. I use a lead hammer on my eared knockoffs, and if I ever use the Octagonal knockoffs again, I will use a hammer on the spanner handle. I'd rather have scars on the knockoffs than loose a wheel on the highway.
