Hi All... does anyone know if this shifter (from a 79)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220550424115&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT
will fit my earlier "black label" gearbox.... thanks

It will.

All you have to do is hook up the wiring.

Also, expect to deal with worn wires as they are pretty thin and get chafed and broken over time .

I would suggest purchase of the replacement wiring pigtail that runs from the switch down through the shifter boot.

I asked a similar question a couple of days ago, thinking I might want to get one of these for a
D-type OD gear box. Opinion was that it wouldn't work.

Would be interested in what you think,Jack.

A switch is a switch; Oops, I guess your talking mechanical.

The shift lever used in the 3 synchro, with a D type OD, and the 4 synchro, with an LH OD, are not interchangeable. RAY

Thank you Ray for the response. Just thought it would be handy to have the switch on the shift lever.

Just my opinion --but I really like the OD switch on the wiper stock --very handy while driving just flick in or out with your fingers--I think the 67 was on the dash tho not sure if you can fit that on that year

quite true. you could even hook up a mercury switch to a foam cup holder and have your overdrive switch on and off every time you take a swig of beer while driving down the road.
