Last week my department were installing a scanning electron microscope. I believe the scope was from Holland. They were setting it all up and one of the guys had to screw some parts together of course, but he noticed the heads looked different and his screwdriver was slipping a lot. They called the manufacture and they told him he needed to use a Posidriv bit, never heard of em of course, but found some in McMaster Carr.
They were talking about it during break and I asked what type of weird screw they were and he said "posidriv" and I get all glowy and tell him I got all four sizes of insert bits in my glovebox.
MG SAVED THE DAY!
Anyways, this week I got to break apart the five or so shipping crates the STEM it came in. They were real pieces of work, 9-ply cabinet plywood [mahogony throughout, even had cracks and stuff filled] and they were assembled with carriage bolts, nails and wood Posidriv screws and were all supported by massive rubber bushings
i took about 100 screws home to put together a hardtop hoisting frame, hows that for authentic

I never throw away a good piece of hardware or a piece of strange bracketry. If I put all I have in wooden boxes, plastic bins, cans, and baby food jars it would fill no less than 2 five gallon buckets. I have no idea how I can remember exactly which container some of this stuff is, but when I need something it's usually right where I think it is. My 40 year and some of my dad's 60 year old "junk" has saved the day many a time.
