Been working on killing oil leaks today. Have noticed that there is a large hose going from the spin on oil filter to the oil pump (I guess). Anyway, where the hose plugs into the metal part that goes into the filter seems to leak when the car is reved and blows oil on the Mallory Ignition.
Do you folks recommend any specific oil pump/filter hoses. Is that something that I would order as a Moss part, or could I get the right size from a Auto Parts store?
Thanks gang!

Definitely a specialist part, although I have heard a few complaints about the quality of the ones currently available. You might be able to find someone near you who makes hydraulic hoses and could rebuild yours. I know you can get air conditioner hoses rebuilt using the existing ends, and I know that there are places that build hydraulic hoses, so I assume that there should be places that rebuild hydraulic hoses. Might be time to let your fingers do the walking through the heavy equipment repair section of the yellow pages. At worst, you'll be out a few phone calls...
HTH!
Moss has the hose. Earlier cars w/o oil coolers had a metal pipe, which is NLA - but the rubber hose is in the catalog....
It's probably the banjo fitting where the line attaches to the filter housing, especialy if you have fiber gaskets on each side of the banjo. Tighten that big bolt going into the banjo again. If it has fiber gaskets it will need to be retightened several times over a long period before they compress completely and stop leaking. Also try tightening the bolt hat holds the housing to the block.
I used to get mine rebuilt at a place called the hoseman. They were an outfit that did work with Hydraulic hoses and pipes. These are a special thread, Although I can't remember the size, I do remember the guy telling me that they weren't Metric and they weren't SAE either. So he took my ends and fabricated new hoses. It only cost about $25 to get them reparied. That was years ago.
For my restoration I purchased the new stailess steel lines that come with a thermostat that allows the oil to bypass the oil cooler until it reaches a certain temperature. This really helps in the cooler climates. The hoses are stainless steel metal braided hoses and fancy shiny ends. It's a great kit, but a little on the steep side.
Here is the link to the kits at Atlanta Imported Parts: <http://atlantaimported.com/products-Quickcart.asp> and it is 198.20
and here is the exact same kit at Moss: <http://mossmotors.com/Shop/SearchResults.aspx?SearchText=235-840&WebCatalogID=0> they have it for 223.95
There is a cheaper one that uses rubber hoses, but for the sake of looks and durability I chose the SS.
Vicky Brit also carries them, but they aren't on the website.
You can also just get the hoses from either place
If the hose isn't leaking itself, rebuilding using those ends would be a waste if yu can't tighten like John says and get it to stop. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't get a new hose, just that the ends are shot. Another leak down there would be the o-ring that goes between the filter head (the thing the filter attaches to) and the engine block.
