MGB: oil filters

In the process of testing various oil filters for my 71' GT.
Starting of with Bosch filter(Autozone, $5.99) bit expensive but cheap compared to engine damage. This time I decided to test the anti-syphon valve before I stuck it on the engine, by blowing into the filter and then also drawing back through it, the valve was doing its job, The Bosch atleast passed this test. The Purolator Pur-one that I pulled off , has appeared to have failed, when I pulled it off, it was totally empty of oil(after sitting for about two weeks) and the valve failed the air test.
I also got a doner new Crossland filter(Another MG recommended filter) from Sportscar Warehouse to test, it will go on after the Bosch runs through 3000 miles af testing. He didn't have any Uni-parts available at the time.
My only main concern is to find out which filter can successfully hold oil in it, so I don't encounter dry pumping the engine after long periods of car sitting.
Keep everyone posted.

I've been thinking about and remembering some things during this filter contraversy. I was selling Fram when I finished up my car so of course that's what I put on it. I do, however remember that it took a few seconds for my oil pressure to come up if the car had sat for a week or more. I sell Hastings now and had installed one before this whole filter thing came up. My oil pressure pops up two seconds after the engine starts now. As an aside: Hastings and Baldwin are the same filters. If I'm calling on a shop that uses Baldwin I'm not even supposed to try and change them to Hastings, That's how close they are.

Having had filter problems with Fram and Bosch... I read the articles on filters that were posted, went to web site and read study that was done. Neat stuff. Wound up taking Tom B's advice. Mobil 1 from now on. Expensive, but no leaks/drips and oil pressure comes up quick.

There is a web site at:

http://minimopar.simplenet.com/oilfilterstudy.html

in which the results of a personal study of various oil filters is posted. Very interesting reading... While this is not from a professional testing lab, the guy seems to have known what he was doing and done a thorough job of it.

I read that a while back and the guy is really trying to tell it like it is. He got in a little trouble just like most people who try and state an honest opinion, but he just took a slightly diffferent tac and is sailing right along. There's more to come on that site for anyone wanting to stay on top of it.

After a weeks worth of sitting, I went to start the GT and viola!, the oil pressure came up while cranking, rather then after the engine started.

I have been using Mann W917 for awhile now and never gave it a second thought. I went with this one because the shop guy I was asking said he used Mann due to its ability to retain oil after shut off on other makes of cars. Maybe he was just trying to sell me the filter. I bought it. Oil pressure drops to around 25-30 during idle but I never noticed what it does during start up.
