I would like to know if your oil guage needle move smooth or sticky? mine is smooth on start up but seems sticky on shut down is this normal?

Mine is smooth both up and down. One way to check would be to get a cheap gauge and hook it directly to the engine, and see how that one works. If that gauge is smooth, it could be either the line to the gauge, or the gauge itself needs servicing.

What do you mean by "sticky". I have the same guage and it takes a few seconds on shut down to return to 0. That's normal. If it takes longer than that maybe the hose is doing what old brake hoses do, namely creating a flap on the inside that will hold some pressure in the guage side of the line for a little longer. The hoses are cheap. I'd replace that first before dealing with the guage. The little leather washer in the fitting to the guage also could cause the problem. Do the cheap stuff first.

My 74 gauge moved smoothly up and down until I removed the gauge to clean the glass. Gauge pointer got jammed; now it moves in a jerky motion, especially on it's way down.
