In connecting the oil pressure line to the block and to the gauge should there be a washer inside the connection. I remember a small fiber or leather washer in the MGA or else the '63 B. My shop manual and parts manual are missing in action.

Rodger.
On the MGA the fitting to the block does not use a washer, but the one at the gauge does. Not sure about the Magnette, but I'd think it's probably the same.
The fitting on the gauge that takes a washer has a small seat on it for the washer to sit on.

I still need to install an oil pressure line to the gauge. It loioks like it actually uses a compression fitting at the gauge. Ed
I found my parts list book, I don't see a washer so it looks like the fitting I have will work by compression alone.
Rodger, to the best of my limited recollection it is a compression fitting at the gauge and does not use a washer. I built a whole new line from the block to the gauge a while back right after the "I-526 smokescreen" incident. I got rid of the rubber flex hose and used the braided oil flex lines to get to the firewall then used 1/8" copper to the gauge. I think.....
I used copper all the way to the gauge, with a compression splice at the firewall, coveres in a piece of rubber fuel line for abrasion resistance. Its a normal copper oil pressure line, like you find at any auto parts store.
As an interface between the hard copper and the flex line I used the ARV oil pressure switch. I might hook it up to a buzzer or light or something interesting.
Mark, I have a cool looking vintage siren that I bought off eBay for cheap. I cleaned it up and it works, quite well. I had thought about hanging it in the engine room but I'm not sure I want to hear it go off every time I try to start the car.
I'll probably just stick to the buzzer gizmo.
You'd nead a relay delay for startup, of course. But you are probably right to stick with a buzzer.
