I will soon be starting my old "B" engine after about 18 years in storage. I want to spin the engine (with spark plugs out) to get oil pressure before starting up. My question is: Do I pull the large center wire out of the coil so that I don't get spark ? Or will that damage the coil? I don't want a spark perhaps jumping to ground on the inside fender when I may have gas vapors in the engine compartment. And yes,I am in the process of cleaning the gas tank. I also plan to take off the valve cover and coat the valve and rocker area with a little Mobil 1. When the car went into storage I added some motor oil into the cylinders, so I hope the rings are not rusty. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Yeah Paul, see if you cant spin by hand 1st. Pull your coil wire. It wont hurt it. Spin until you get pressure. I would change oil 1st also, or strait away at min. Tell us how it sounds!!!!!!

As Bernard said, I'd add a (regular, not wide mouth) cap of oil to each cylinder. Then crank by hand first.
I agree with the above that pulling the coil wire should not cause a problem for the coil. I would remove the wire from the coil side and not the middle of the distributor.
