Check this tow bar out that I found on eBay. Its probably really cheap but I don't tow far or anything heavy. Does anyone think it would work?

David,

It might be ok but probably made on the cheaper side no doubt. By the way, this seller seems to make his money on the shipping fees just in case you did not notice. Look at some of his or her other items and you will see what I mean.

Cheers,

Rob

That shipping looks pretty cheap for a big chunk of metal. I don't think he is making much extra on the shipping for this auction.

I have one of those tow bars, I bought it from that seller, it is much better built than you would expect for the $50 or so it really costs. You just have to be aware that you have to mount a pair of plates on the vehicle you are towing to attach the tow bar to, much like an RV towed vehicle. I'm lucky that my B spent the first 6 years of it's life behind an RV and has the necessary lugs already mounted.

If you expect to be able just to hitch this bar to any vehicle, forget it - it won't.

I would be a little more suspect about a 1,000 Engine Cradle for 5 bucks. And ya.. his shipping is not over the top.

Thanks mike. I just removed the bumper from my car and there are some sturdy plates that I could attach a tow bar to. I think I'll buy it now.

It's made in China, lots of sellers have them on E-bay, don't get yourself screwed on the shipping, that's where some of them get their porfit.

Now that you know where it's made you can judge the value of a lot of other stuff coming from China. Much of it is grossly overpriced considering the manufacturing costs, just remember, Cheap starts with a C too.

That is the same bar I bought and used to tow my 79 back from Cali to BC
It worked really well and I only had to drill 1 extra hole in the rb mounting plate
Check your local regs about it though it turns out that using a tow bar behind a car is not legal here only allowed behind rv's

well it looks like the law here says that anything over 2000 ponds has to have aux brakes. I think the mg is just above 2000. I doubt anyone would stop me from towing the B 35mph on backroads.

do you have a pic of the plate you mounted to your car for the tow bar
