MGB: Original colour question

OK my brother in law and I are having an argument as to what was the original colour of my car, its currently red however there is the possability it was Limeflower originally and would love to solve the argument. (not that I intend to paint it limeflower if that was the original colour just want to know)

Is there any way to figure out what the original colour was, I have looked at everything I can find and it seems MG did not put any colour codes in the VIN # or on a plate anywhere on the vehicle, and the original owner docs etc do not indicate the colour either. There seems to be red overspray around some areas of the boot and engine so thats why I figure it was not originally red also the inside of the boot and engine bay is a light greeny colour.

Inquiring minds want to know, any suggestions to determine original colour.

Look under the dash. This area is seldom painted.

You could also order a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate for your car....it's kind of like a "birth certificate" for your MG.

Paul,

In addition to what Rick suggested, the paint codes in the Library indicate that
Limeflower Dark Lime Green BLVC20 30010 44448-1973 was exclusive to 1973
MG and Midget models.

No way is anybody going to paint the trunk and engine bay a light greeny color over stock red paint. Undoubtedly, whatever that color is was original. Most people who cheap out paint those areas satin black (like my TR6 which embarrassing as it is was not done by me).

Up under the dash is another good place to check for original colour. Not many people take the time to paint under there.

The Heritage certificate will tell you for sure.
