Well, I finally got the drivers seat installed, WHAT A PAIN!! Does anyone know the secret method for getting the bolts to line up with the extremely limited amount of access?

Another problem, now that I have run the engine for longer than 10 seconds since it was built, I found out it is leaking oil from the bottom of the dipstick tube.. Anyone else had that problem? What's the fix?

Thanks!!!

For lining up the bolt holes for your seat, take some bolts with the same thread and cut the heads off. Screw them into the holes in the floor - finger tight only. Put the wooden strips in place on the bolts and then set your seat in place and the holes are lined up. Remove the bolts you installed one at a time and screw in the correct bolts.

looks nice.

Robert already told you about fitting the seats. With the oil dip stick check whether the tube is screwed down securely to the block.

Thanks, there's lots of little details I want to sort out, but overall it's turning out pretty nice. If I can get the passenger seat in it will look pretty much finished except for the top, which I'm worrying about later.

Thanks! It's been harder than I expected in some respects, easier in others. Expensive regardless.

Reading on the British Automotive site it seemed that this particular year had a press in tube... I tried to twist it with some pliers today but didn't seem to move. I also tapped it lightly with a mallet and wooden dowel, not sure if it moved at all. I'll check it next time I fire it up.

I didn't assemble the engine, but it's pretty much all new. Learning about it as I go.

Gorgeous looking interior! I also had stripped the interior of my '74 CB and like you, experienced the frustration of trying to reinstall the seats. I did what Robet Browning suggested above .... with one difference.

I took some long 1/4-28 (fine thread) bolts, cut off the heads. I then re-tapped the anchor nuts in the floor to 1/4-28 and installed permanent studs. The seats fit easily over the studs and I fasten the seat frames with 1/4-28 nuts and washers.

Future seat removals and installations should be a breeze.

Removing the seats and steering wheel sure makes it easy for electrical work under the dash as well.

Good luck!
John
