Bought a new tool yesterday and thought others here might be interested in it. It's a benchtop bandsaw that uses the same blades that a regular Portaband saw uses. It's pivot is tight and it cuts good and straight. And the price sure beats the $600 or so that others of similar design cost. It may be just the thing for you fellows with limited shop space but have a desire to be able to cut aluminum and steel easily and accuratly

Wow that looks good. I guess you don't get the monster burr that an abrasive chop saw makes. Ever since I worked in a shop that had a huge vertical band saw I've wanted something similar. As you said, they are usually expensive.

Yep, I have a couple od abrasive chop saws and hate them. They are noisy, messy and seldom cut where I want them to cut. Usually they are 1/16" on one side of my mark or the other. And who wants abrasive dust all over their cars and tools? With the new saw, I was able to cut as thin as 1/16" slices off the end of a piece of 6061 flatbar, and the cut was straight, something a abrasive saw, at least mine, will not do. Best of all the price is right
micromark.com has a very interesting portable/benchtop band saw on sale now for $144. Item #82563. It's not a real heavyweight but is unusual in being either hand held or used as a benchtop horizontal band saw.
