Hello to all,
I was wondering has anyone heard from any of the MGE members down under, They were hit hard with an earth quake yesterday. I hope all of them are OK.
Thanks,
Bill

Apparently, the area area around Christchurch was pretty hard hit. RAY
Living in Hamilton, some 670kms north of Christchurch, we didn't feel a thing.
A big shake up down there though! Two people seriously injured, no one killed - but I do wonder how many MG's got crushed by falling masonry?
Glad to here you all are doing good, looks pretty bad on the news from here. Talking about $1.2 billion in damages around Christchurch. Hope things return to normal as soon as possible, Take care.
Bill
Thanks Bill...costs will now exceed $2billion easy...many people in shelter care and many without water and sanitary conditions very bad in parts...there have been many after shocks..cannot believe nobody was killed...there are 2 people in serious condition..we have family there who are safe luckily ..but their house has been destroyed...our last big one was a long time ago...last reports are many people with gastro problems after drinking the water etc...if you go to www.nzherald.co.nz you will see pics of the destruction
thanks for your concern ..Charles
Prime minister has said over 100,000 houses damaged. Most not to bad but some including new houses are to not repairable. No MGs reported damaged yet. Check out NZ Herald for photos.
More quakes here today..this time in the Nth Island so things are a bit of a worry here at the moment.Cannot get hold of my shock restoration man ...his business is right in the center of the big quake in Christchurch...fingers crossed for him
At least 6 MGE members in Christchurch according to Skye's excellent member search facility. We know the folks are all OK, lets hope for the best for their B's
Some of you may know, I lived in NZ for a year during 2005, so I know all these cities very well.
Spent quite a bit of time in Christchurch. Mostly drinking with mates and selling our van before leaving...
Glad there hasn't been a lot of casualties, but I'm sure it's devastating.

Unfortunately the geological activity that makes the country so beautiful can also be a big danger!!

Yep. And their families, friends, associates - and their families....
Just glad it's been mostly property damage. Expensive as it is, and as bad as things are for the folks enduring it, at least those folks are still with us.
