Good day,
I am switching carbs in my 73 B, i picked up a set on E-bay and rebuilt them.
I noticed on my original one the overun valves on the butterflyes are operational, but on the ones i pick up on E-bay are soldered shut, i tried switching them around but the one that is welded also have a notch at the top, mine dont.
Should i leave them as is soldered shut or realese them.

My opinion is that either use working ones or put in solid discs. The flow into the engine is severely interrupted by those monstrous things, if you ask me.
Nick,
I assume that the set in your eBay carbs has a notch in the bottom, rather than the top. On AUD493 HIF carbs, typically from a 1972, the idle bypass circuit has a fitting that protrudes upward into the body, and just under the butterflys. The notch is necessary in that carb set.
If the solder job looks secure, and pretty well seals up the overrun valves, I wouldn't hesitate to use them. Also make sure that the butterflys are fitting the bodies well, when they are installed.
Your right, they do have a notch ( the ones with the soldered butterfly ) the old ones have no notch. I left the ones with the solderd on they seem pretty well blocked, i dont have any solid ones in hand but i think i will change them this winter.
Now for the hard part adjusting them on the first run... any suggestions would be appreciated.
