MGB: Plastic Screws on Rear Deck

On the back of my car just behind the cockpit rail there used to be two plastic screws that plugged these little holes. Long story short they're now missing and I can't find them in the Moss catalog and the rep I just spoke to at Moss had no idea what I was talking about.

They're odd little buggers to describe, and now that they're missing I have to do it off of memory. But there are two holes in my tonneau that line up over them so you can get to them even with the tonneau in place. They're not the lift the dot studs and they're not the little aero-dynamic looking chrome pieces that the top bar slides into. Does anyone have any idea what these are used for and what they're called so I can try and get a pair of replacements?

Thanks,
Alex Scolnik

Actually I just found a photo that shows it. Incidentally it's the same photo as my signature!

Thanks again,
Alex

It used to be where the seat belts were located at one time. They changed the design (thankfully!)

Your tonneau has the holes so you can use it and the seat belts.

I picked some up from a body shop I went there with my car and asked if he had any plugs that would fit, after a few tries we found one that fitted and looked almost original.

Bob, I wonder if you got mine which mysteriously disappeared at the body shop over the winter!

Seriously though, does anyone have any off of a parts car? I just e-mailed the photo to LBCarCo, and they don't think they have any.

Thanks,
Alex

Most big body shops are loaded with various obsolete whole plugs and chorme strip clips. Your best bet is to do like Bob and just run around until you find one that has them. Big shops have several hardware drawers with about 30 compartments each in a cabinet type box simply full of that stuff.

They are a smooth tube that flows into the threads as you "screw" them in. You are correct, they are NA. Dick Price saved my bacon the last I needed some. Tony may have them. If not, contact me off-line and I may have a source for you.

Thanks,

You know, Guys, if someone can provide me more info GEM Enterprises may be able to make some or at least something similar.

They are nothing more than plastic buttons that have a shaft (tube) that goes into the hole on the rear deck where early model shoulder belts attached. The original ones had a slot down the middle the size of a standard medium sized screwdriver .
