I think it will work on either type of wheel.

Paul, it is hard to tell really. The difference between the WW and the steel wheel spare hold downs are the length of the bolt. The WW version being the longer of the two. I do not know for certain what the lengths were but, if this piece was in fact from a WW equipt vehicle than it most likely is correct.

Robert, thanks, I always was of the impression that there were two different lengths but apparently not. I've learned something new.

I just went and measured the wire wheel one--The entire bolt length (from inside the hold down cup to end of threads is 7 1/2". The pictured one needs to measured to compare. The hold down looks identical. I have 185x70x14 tires on a stock wire for '73 and the length works just fine.
Unfortunately the ROstyle trunk is not here to measure--sorry. Anyone care to measure their stock hold down?

They are not the same part number for sure. One wheel stores upright and the other stores down for one thing.

And I put 185 tyres on my spare, and the bolt was no longer long enough to catch the threads.
Its always something.
Have fun

Hi Paul,

For what it's worth, the bolt/rod on the hold down for my rostyle spare 7 1/2" long. The treaded portion is 1 3/8".

I got mine from a guy who had a box of them he was getting rid of. I'll send you a PM with his info. This guy told me the wire wheel hold down had a longer bolt.

Edit: The Moss catalog shows 5 flavors. 1-early disk roadster 2-early disk gt 3-Rostyle 4-wire 5-LE

So, Paul's ROstyle matches my wire hold down at 7 1/2". I suppose to get a replacement, it would be prudent to place spare in trunk/boot and measure up from bottom to top of wheel before buying.

I noticed in Clausager's the early disk and LE spares are stored with the front side down and the rostyles and wires with the front side up. While there are 5 versions, I'm thinking the early disk and LE hold-downs must have a rather short bolt.

Robert - Do you store youre spare w/ the front side up?

The early disc wheel hold down is made of unobtanium and has a very different design than the later hold downs.

Thanks Everyone.

Robert I'll do what you said and measure mine when I get home tonight.

Thanks
