When I went to order points for my 79 B at NAPA they told me sorry no listing for points after 76. I ordered the 76 points and con. This is my first MG. I bought from original and it has points so whats the deal.

I worked parts for years and the listings just aren't always accurate. You know more about your car and it's kin than the guy who did the catalog. Those dudes are writers of sorts and probably don't know anything about cars. It's just words and numbers and a paycheck to them.

77 on were electronic ignition dizzys -- hence no points. best thing to do is look on the dist. to find out what model you have...25d, 45d, mallory, etc. many of the old electroni ignitions from then (such as the opus) were trashed which explains why you have a points dizzy. once you have the model of the dist, you can find the points anywhere.

VB shows that the points you ordered were for the 45D dizzy. If that's what you've got you'll be fine. You probably do.

Phil is right, and this time the book was too.

ditch the points and get a petronox setup. I have loved it on my 76.

I like the Crane XR-700. It has a light that allows for static timing. You can get them at generic parts houses. But wait! Be sure they sell you a unit with the Opus reluctor included, ie pointless to pointless, not points to pointless.

does this mount inside the old dis or is this a complete unit and how much?p.s. thanx for the help

The reluctor wheel and flash unit go in the dist, with wires coming out to a finned black box that mounts on the fenderwell (or wherever).

get an ignitor and forget the points. install and go for ever.

My 76 that I bought in 77 had electronic ignition? Anyway, I bought the Pertronics set-up from Jeff Zorn at the MG2003 this weekend...to replace my points in the 74 I have now.
