Hi guys....
I read everywhere that I really ought to own the Lyndsey Porter book on restoration, but have held off buying it. Why? Because I also hear that the current edition is not as helpful since the resto stuff is based on using a Heritage body shell, whereas the first edition (out of print) show the actual sheetmetal work, etc. Is this true? Should I TRY to find the first editon? I have NO plans to buy a body shell.
Thanks
Porter Book

Porter does talk about sheetmetal restoration in the second edition; that's the one I have. People who have seen both think the first is the way to go.
Graehm suggested "Practical Classics on the MGB" and many of those pictures show up in Porter's book but there are more of them. It goes into detail.
Porters' book is better than nothing but I wouldn't give it high marks. I have 2 of his books. Both are lacking and leave too many questions.
Greg's right. I have the second edition and it struck me as being a chronicle of someones first rebuild job. I dont know how in the world they kept from bustin' that windshield. And Waxoil to lube the thing while they were trying to assemble it? What a mess! That stuff will be leaching out forever. Liquid soap works great, stays slick even when it dries up, and washes away clean. There were several other things that reminded me of a Chinese fire drill or Hogan's goat too.
