thanks for the info. it's probably all of the rain here in portland that is causing it. it's unlikely to be head related because i just had it redone. one culprit may be that i have my weber on the engine now and no place to hook up the vapor hose from the charcoal cannister. the options are:
1) leave the hose dangling and sucking in the portland mist
2) plug up the hose
3) make a y connection with the crankcase ventilator hose into the weber
my gut instinct is to plug it up but i'm thinking that will cause problems in the vapor recovery system. a better approach may be the y connector since the carb pulls a vacuum on the cannister. any suggestions? thanks.

Was the head retorqued ? If it wasn't you very well may have a blown head gasket. When I replace a head gasket I retorque after the engine has reached op temp. Then again after the customer has put 500 mile on the work. Unlike the new head gaskets an MGB head MUST be retorque. You need to keep a close eye on it. As for the canister,I never hook them up on Weber conversions.
I've got all the cannister stuff working on my Weber conversion, but I'll be darned if I can remember just how I did it. I don't remember installing any Ys though I may have.
Are you talking about Portland, Oregon? If you drive the car just a little time and time again, it's condensation. I had problems in my VW bus, Eugene, OR, and it was air cooled. Take it for a good long drive periodically.
But do what Tom was talking about too.
There is a company out on the web that makes a kit to seperate oil vapor. Its just a 6"x6"plastic canister with a K&N breather filter on it. I heard about it through the Volvo Turbobrick website.
I checked out summit racing (summitracing.com), for $29, they have a nice breather system. Same as the one I discribed in the last post.
