Got a question. I have a MK1 Midget with positive earth electronics. I want to hook up a battery maintainer to it over the winter and want to be sure about the connections.

Question is...
How do you hook up a charger, or for that matter jumper cables, to a positive earth car?
Sorry if this sounds a little ignorant, but I have never thought about it before and don't want to fry my car.

Bryan,
Just disconnect the battery from the car and connect your trickle charger in the normal way.
(Better of course to drive the Midget ! This takes care of your battery and prevents the clutch and brakes from seizing....8^)
Hope this helps,

Nick

No need to disconnect the battery from the car, just connect the battery conditioner (as opposed to a trickle charger) positive to positive and negative to negative. The same thing applies to jumper cables. The negative lead of the charger or jumper cable goes to the negative side of the battery, which is attached to one terminal of the starter solenoid. The positive lead goes to a convenient earth point.

Dave is correct, forget the car, Look at the battery only. If you want to convert it, MOSS has tech advice. If you want a radio, you need to covert it to neg ground. Its easy.

It would be great to drive the car Nick. In fact, I'm already suffering withdrawl symptoms - and that's just in anticipation of tucking it under it's cover in the back corner of the garage. The only problem is, I live in North Dakota, which is akin to living at the North Pole between November and March. It gets so cold here that Santa cracks jokes about us at Christmas time.

The Midget (and wife) object to zipping around in waist deep snow and -40 farenheit temps.

Yea, one of those would be great. If you have a spare, why don't you send it my way.... And, no, there's no sign of global warming around here.......It snowed today. Didn.t stay, but it was falling.

To be honest; I've never seen a Healey hardtop for sale. They must be very rare.
But the factory GAN2 hardtop appears on e-bay every now and then.
Usually the fixings are missing and those are not easy to find...
