So, after finding the 6 slot reluctor wheel in my dist., I ordered a repalcement. They sent a genuine Opus reluctor, complete with the Lucas parts to hold it in. Sent it back, and the parts guy looks again, and comes up with the Crane install kit. Next day it comes; a box of about 8 reluctors (choose the one that best fits your application), and we wonder why it is missing the teeth at the bottom. I get to reading and figure out that this kit is for any MG BUT the pointless Opus, so take it back. The parts guy checks for the right Crane part, and tells me they don't stock it. But, he can have one in two weeks. I take the 6 hole reluctor back to the shop, they silicone over the extra holes, cut new ones, and voila! it now runs on four cylinders! The carb is finally set up, life is good!
Now, to get rid of the automatic steering feature.

Good shot Chris. Not too hard to reset it for a 4-banger and it should be as good as anything you could buy. I don't remember what the automatic steer feature is, but if it's during acceleration or braking check everything on the rear springs starting with the U-bolts.

That's the plan. I didn't find anything earlier except the swaybar was loose, but that wasn't it. I'm guessing the driver side spring bushing, as it walks to the left with gas, and dives right on deceleration.

You're homing in on it. It's not tough a job if you don't drop everything out at once.

I like to get the car up, disconnect the swaybar and rear spring shackles, lower the rear end, replace one spring at a time, then raise it back up and fasten.

If you have a better plan, I'm a willing listener!

That's the best way to do it. that way you don't have to battle both ends at once. The back end can't let the axle "walk" very much, better have a good look at the front bushings. They're pretty thick in diameter and if shot could let it move a lot. Keep a close eye on the rear hangers so they don't try to overcenter lock in the wrong direction when you put her back on her feet.
