Anyone have any secerts for putting in new rubber for the vent window?
I was wondering if warming up the rubber in hot water would help it go in?

If you are talking about the rubber seal that goes around the vent windows, I just removed the vent window by removing the nut/spring combination at the bottom and pulled the old rubber out and popped the new rubber in. Only a little coaxing needed, that was easily accomplished with gentle use of a slot screwdriver.

The big trick is gettting the vent window out without breaking off the mounting stud. (Kim deBourbon wrote up a great article on curing that break). Otherwise, it is a stuff it in there job, and pay attention that the chrome "shielding" fits into the groove for it.

Are you asking about the rubber around the glass or the rubber between the body and the chrome ?

I was talking about the rubber between the body and chrome and I just finished doing it.
I did soak the rubber in hot water for a while and it seemed to soften it up and go in easier. Hadn't caught what Chris said about the shield but figuered it out after looking at the one I have not done yet.

thanks

for the rubber around the quarter window you need fingers of steel!. Do-able but painful. The quicks in your finger nails hurt like hell. The guy at the MG factory must have been able to pull nails out of wood, at will. Probably the same super man that did the windscreens.

Has anyone ever figured out how the factory installed the new windshields and positioning the bottom rubber? I use the soft rope method, but I'm sure they had a better way.
