Boys and Girls, I'm wondering if anyone has a source for air cleaners that will "clear" the limited space left over between the SU's and the brake servo on the late model B's. It's maybe an inch worth of clearance! Yes, I deep sixed the Stromberg, fuel leaking device, which originally sat there. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I would not do pancakes, as they don't filter very well, and they sure don't flow worth a darn. On the other hand, if that's all you can fit, well, you gotta go with something...

I've heard of some K & Ns, though, that have a conical shape that offer more clearance than the typical cylinder, which would be the hot ticket.

I think, and I'm not sure on this one, that some SU manifolds are deeper than others. Like I said, I'm not sure on that one.

Aw heck, someone running that setup will have better info than I.

Baxter's right about the K&N's, if you can afford them. I run a set of Longflow type with the rear filter mesh cover slightly indented for brake booster clearance. Also have heard of others cutting down the intake spacers for clearance.

The conical K and N's sound like they would do a better job. Any idea on the part number or any specifics I could use to get them ordered? Also, Mike, do you belong to the CT MG Club? I recently moved to NH from CT and belonged for a number of years. There is a very nice show scheduled up here in Portsmouth on July 19th! Thanks, guys.

Something there should probably work, I imagine. You may need to use the round can bases, like the folks using K&N cylinders do, but I don't know.

I did notice some of them have angled bases... if you could figure out how to mount them, preferably with some sort of velocity stack, that would allow those to mount up and angle upwards to (a) clear the booster and (b) get away from the exhaust, that would be too cool.

Moss sell the conical K&Ns under part number 222-985. They list them as "1-1/2" SU carbs (tapered for clearance), MGB '74 1/2-on w/twin carb conversion." They're a bit dear, though -- $65.95 ea!

I've bought K&Ns from these guys, good prices and good service. Ramember to get a K&N maintenance kit too. Never ever wash a K&N with gasoline or an solvent. The rubber shrinks 'way down and they won't fit right. <http://www.performanceintl.com/>

Dan,
Yes, I do belong to the CT club. Here is their website if you need it:
