Any comments on this cocktail? Claims to help cooling. I'm skeptical but curious! Moss catalogue says it's worth 10 bucks.

I was given half a bottle of "Purple Ice" which I assume is the same snake oil with a different color, but it did seem to bring the temp down 5 to 10 degrees. The owners of the MGA that the other half went into claimed similar results. I don't know where they got it but it must be available elsewhere than Moss...........

I used to use it in my Range Rover. I used to pull and camper with that vehicle and helped with running hot. It was great, I plan to add it to my MGB. You can usually find it at Pep Boys or Auto Zone also, I would check the price there before I bought from Moss.

Well, I bought it at my local auto partsstore for about $9.00 cdn!! It didn't really do a thing! But I was fighting other issues at the time!! Personally, I would just go with a low percentage of antifreeze!! Water cools pretty good!

You can find it at a local speed shop that caters to the ricers (that's where I got mine).

But. did it really help???

Gary, it's a snake oil, but from what I understand it works somewhat like a water softner which helps the water work better with the antifreeze and your cooling system.

I know John, and I did read the package!! (that is not meant to sound rude!!) I still averaged 100' warmer than what it was outside, with or without it!!

Several companies make that stuff. The easiest to find can be bought anywhere they sell Gunk procucts, comes in a quart tin can like motor oil was in years ago. Can't remember the product name, but it's pretty comon stuff.

Does it work? Beats me...I never had any overheating problems anyway. I just put it in when I had the rad out, changed all the hoses, etc. For just a few bucks it seemed like one of those might-as-wells, and I figured it wouldn't hurt anything.

Hey Gary, You are supposed to put it in the radiator, YOU AREN'T SUPPOSED TO DRINK IT. :o) :o)

Damn!! It was good though!! :o)

"Red Line" makes it and they seem to have a pretty good reputation with the other oil, etc. they have on the market.

Maybe Gary confused "Red Line" and "Red Stripe" :-)

What does that mean?? we don't have any 'red stripe' up here!!

Red Stripe is Jamaican lager, mon.

Red Stripe is one of those beers that is GREAT when you're in Jamaica, but when you get back home and buy a six to try and re-create the feeling, it just plain SUCKS!!!! Same thing with Tecate and lime; GREAT in Cancun, SUCKS here!!!

Oh, yeah, and Water Wetter does seem to knock off five or ten degrees of water temp, at least here in a Texas summer.

I'm going now. Checker, then Pep Boys on the way home.

Many SCCA racers use the "Red Line" products; water wetter, motor oil, and transmission lube. I've got the Red Line MTL (Manual Transmission Lubricant) in the Borg Warner T9 in the XR4Ti and the Pinto because the special $20/qt Ford stuff is NLA.

Great info guys. I guess I'll pick up a quart of this and a six pack of "Stripe", and the only risk is getting the two mixed up. Thanks again!

Guys,

I used a product called "max cool" available at my local Napa parts store. I worked great in the wife's Infiniti. The temp gauge never reaches halfway anymore. I think it worked in the MG (which runs cool anyways). I think it helped in my buddy's '71 Vette.

I thinks its great for Alum radiators & heads, but may not help if your machine already has cooling problems.
