Based on several recommendations from forum members, I decided to go with a 77-80 MGB radiator for my 3.4 V6/T5 conversion in my 67 GT. Got the radiator late yesterday and just kind of put the radiator in place and surprisingly it looks like it will fit with minimum effort. If I get a piece of 10 gauge sheetmetal bent to a “U” shape bracket 1" x 2" x 9", I can bolt it to the original diaphram and then bolt the new radiator to the new bracket. The brackets will hold the radiator about 2" in front of the diaphram which provides clearance with the valance without having to trim it. This is good since I could only trim ½" to 3/4" anyway before I hit the sway bar. Hopefully this will give me enough room to add a puller fan. Since I am also using a late model expansion tank to go along with the late model radiator, I have to get it mounted but that looks easy also. The whole operation appears fairly simple so I’m suspicious! Am I missing anything major here?
Regarding the location of the expansion tank, since the new radiator has no place to fill it, I will have to fill the system through the expansion tank. Where should I be in terms of the level of the tank inlet (hose from the radiator) to the radiator itself. I assume it would have to be on the same level or higher, correct?
FYI, bought the radiator from British Racing Green (brgparts.com). His price for the radiator shipped to my front door was $50 to $75 cheaper that any other vendor. The radiator was very well packaged and arrived in perfect shape.
Many thanks for your input.
