MGB: Radio Wiring

Hi

I have my speakers attached to the radio and the ground of the radio attached. But, There are two wires (red and yellow) that give power to the radio. My question is to what wires do I connect the red and yellow wires on my MG. I found the wiring harness on the MG, but I do not have one for my radio. I will probably have to remove the wires from the wiring harness on the car, correct? I'll post pics in a minute.

You should have a green and white wire which goes to the red. You want to connect the yellow to a purple constant hot wire for the memory. The green and white will only be hot when the ignition key is in the run possission to play the radio.

How do you remove the purple wire from the wiring harness that it is stuck in?

Got the wires out of wiring harness. But, there are two green and white wires that are supposed to connect to the red radio wire. Which one should I use or am I looking at the wrong wires.

Use a test light to see if both of them are hot with the switch on and not with the switch off. The purple will be going to the cig lighter and the map light. The ideal way to do it is to install a bullet connector on the wires from the radio and use a double connector. If you dont have that you could use a scotch block to splice into the purple wire, and the green and white. I use the bullet connectors.

What is the best way to connect the red wire to the green/white wires. There is an odd fixation attaching the two green/white wires and I do not know what is the most secure way of connecting all three. If someone has experienced this, please let me know.

Thanks

You want to connect the switched power wire from the radio to the white/green wire from the ignition switch. Not the green/white wires. Green/white wires go to the turn signals.
Best way to connect the wires is to order bullet and snap connectors. There should be an empty spot on the snap connector for the purple wire going to the cigar lighter. Stock wiring had a single snap connector on the white/green or green/pink wire for the radio.
If your car is a '74, the stock switched wire will be green/pink. Consult the wiring diagram for your car. Wiring diagrams are available at http://www.advanceautowire.com click on stock schematics.
If you don't have them, you may want to get inline fuse holders for the radio's power connections.

Purple wires are constant power.
White/green and green/pink wires are switched power.

Kimberly is correct about the Green and Pink wire. I don't know what I was thinking. Green and white, and Green and red are for turn signals. I am borderline colorblind and the green and pink looks green and white to me.

Would I be able to take the purple wire off the cig lighter and connect it directly to the radio power? I never use the cig lighter so rather then tap into the purple wire I can just go direct, right? Also, around the two green/pink wires is a rubber thing with a piece of metal holding the wires together. How should I connect the radio wire to the green/pink wires? Thank you again for the help.

Cigar lighters are handy power outputs for phone chargers, gps systems, etc. Are you sure you want to give up the option?
Do you have a picture of the rubber thing with a piece of metal? It sounds like you might be describing a snap connector. You can replace the single snap connector with a double and use a bullet connector on the radio's wire to connect the radio to the car's wiring without cutting the car's wiring.
Bullet and snap connectors are available from British Wiring.
