I recently joined another auto “chat room” – non-MG so don’t be jealous – and they have a neat way of getting extra money for the website upkeep.

They hold small auctions and I believe the whole auction amount goes to the site. It’s usually small related items. For instance; I have a new unused window frame-to-body seal from either Moss or VB for an MGB roadster. I would toss it up for bid on a sticky post. You guys bid on it, I send the profit to Sky for the site.

It works for them.

Just a thought.

That's a great idea Carl. Any thoughts on this Skye?

I agree. I have lots of "leftover" usable parts like lamps, etc. where I used the best of several and tossed the rest into a box. I'd like to see them go to a good home and support the site.

I agree....consideration should be given to shipping costs such that the "seller" doesn't lose money on the deal, though.

On other unrelated sites I've seen where it's common practice for even free parts offered that a donation to be given to the site. Amount is a the receivers discretion. It seems people are usually so happy with a freebie that the donations can be quite nice.

The whole concept sounds good.

I think shipping would be a separate issue to be agreed upon on the onset of each auction.

With all the traffic on the site now I wonder if it's needed....

I do not agree with the proposal (although I do not oppose it). Instead, I think we should auction some parts for charity organizations: kids without home, foundations for abused woman or children, aid for hunger in Africa, etc. Nothing wrong with supporting a website but we can make a real humanitarian difference giving semi-anonymously (from the MGB Experience group) to so many good causes. Just go to the root of the site

http://www.mgexperience.net/

and make a contribution!

For the service this site brings to all of us... everyone should have gold member status. Where else can we get what this site offers?

I saw something interesting -- over on the www.jalopyjournal.com (HAMB -- hookey a** message board) they have an alliance membership that is $50. For that you get a dash plaque and a chance to help out a bit on the costs, and in exchange they're getting hand picked vendors in for discounts. Coker tires is one, and typically a set of tires more than makes up for the alliance membership. There's more vendors coming -- it's an interesting concept and with over 15K people on the board, I guess some vendors are considering it a worthwhile adventure. I know myself what it's like to run a board, web hosting, mailing list costs -- etc. I did this type of thing for FWD Mopar / Shelby Dodge stuff for quite a while.

I figure the information on this site has saved me more than $50.00 a year on my car. If you want to support this site, get a star by your name. I assume Skye will let us know if the cost of band-width becomes an issue.

By the way, we did MG Experience T-Shirts last year, with profits to the web site. Its one of my favorite shirts. What/who/how do we get that going again this year? Anyone?

If someone was willing to do the auction thing, I'd be willing to donate some GEM stuff to the cause and pay for the shipping from my shop as well. Anyone interested? I'm way behind donating to the BBS and promise to make amends "on Tuesday" as Wimpy used to say. I just don't like doing it VIA credticard and also do not like having to ask for an address to send a check too. Guess I'm just strange?

Miller, The HAMB site is where I got the idea. - are you a HAMB'er? I figured I'd hold on the Alliance idea.

Thanks gold star guys, but I think you're missing the point.

In addition to supporting the site, it's a fun way to share parts. IMHO

On the Forum list, Sye asks for a 5% donation if you sell something..

Quote: "The MGB Experience Buy and Sell Forum! Please donate 5% of all sales back to this site. Thank you."
