MGB: Rear armrests

Just completed a restoration of the rear armrests on my ZBV. I stripped the old leather off along with the sponge material that was under the leather, then cleaned off everything down to the curved steel bar in the armrest. After measuring a length of 3/8" rubber tubing, I slid it over the curved bar. Then added a length of 5/8" heater hose, slitting it length ways, and slid it over the 3/8" tubing, and taped the entire length with electrical tape. After glueing the 5/8 tubing to the wooden disc at each end of the curved steel bar, electrical tape was added , holding the heater hose rubber to the disc. Made a trip to Lowe's and bought a length of 7/8 od x 1/2 id sponge insulation in the plumbing department . This hose is slit to allow glueing, and then wrapped the sponge around the entire length, from end to end. This just about matches the original armrest. The only task left was to finish off the armrest with vinyl fabric. Measured the circumference, then sewed a sleeve with 1 stich down the entire length. With a lot of tugging and squeezing ( 2 person job) finally slipped the sleeve over the entire length of the armrest. Make sure the your stitching is on the inside of the curved armrest. Hope this helps

That sounds good, pictures of vinyl tube or more details on sewing. I need to get my wife to try this soon!
