While prepping the rear body of my car for painting, I uncovered a series of holes which were too symetrical to be coincidence. However, I couldnt determine what they might be for and I prefer the unadorned lines on the tail end anyway. But I tripped upon this pic which shows evidence of something having been attached to the rear panel. Dont want to miss anything. Anyone able to identify what could have been attached across the rear?
Thanks,
John

UK style license plate holder? The "high bump": in the center sure looks like were the illumination device is fitted. Other more authoritative folks will certainly debunk or validate me....
"I depend on the kindness of strangers"....Blanch's sister, "Street Car Named Desire"....T Williams....
On an original car, there should be 3 holes, two for the frame extensions and one small hole centered for feeding a wire for the license plate light. All rear plates were mounted to the bumper. It was not uncommon back in the day for owners to remove the rear bumper in favor of a pair of over rider-type bumpers mounted directly to the frame extensions. The license plate and light were then mounted directly to the body.
