I need some help on installing the rear bumper for a '74 GT.

I have the original chrome bumper and over riders, and I bought a rear bumper kit from B Hive.

Problem is I don't know which way the bolts are supposed to go. Also, the bolts don't go through the spring hole.

Arrgggh...

Jeremy, you are tackling this job in the wrong way. First install everything on the bumper, like overriders and brackets. Then just slide the brackets over the two bolts that are sticking out of the car. Bolt 'em up with a nut.

Do not put a bolt in the hole shown in your last pic. It is just a hole to run your wires which go to the lights on the overriders.

If you need more explanation; fire away!

I don't understand.

So am I right to put the brackets where they are in the last pic? It is secured just like you said to the bolt sticking out of the car. I know not to put a bolt through the wire pass-thru, but then how does the bumper attach to the bracket?

The overriders that came with the vehicle had bolts coming from the rubber side through the back and they were all bent to heck. where on the bumper then do those attach to?

I fear I have the wrong bumper or something, but need to get this figured out quickly as I am wanting to get it tagged next week for inspection.

Thank you!!!

Jeremy,

Remove the brackets from the car and assemble them to the bumper, off the car. You can straightent the bolts that go throuhg the overriders, they are very soft and (obviosuly) bend easily. Use those plus the round-headed chrome bumper bolts. Themn, when the brackets and bumper are assembled into one unit, slide it onto the studs protruding from the car. Use flat washers to shim it to get the proper alignment on both sides.

Thanks, Jack.

I'll give it a go tonight.
