MGB: rear exhaust hanger assembly

Hi Guys-

Having worked on machinery for 30+ years it is a bit embarrassing to ask how to assemble an exhaust hanger, but here goes...- Is this rear exhaust hanger assembled properly? It arrived by UPS today as a loose collection of parts in a bag with no instructions and the picture in the Moss catalog is microscopic, so I gave it a shot based on common sense. Of particular concern is the location of the two fibre washers.

Yea or Nay?

Thanks,

Ren

Here's mine: http://incayellow.com/posts/3982322786 (the copper wire was temporary!) Looks to me like you've got it right.

Wait a minute. I'll have to go check mine again now. I thought the fiber washers went one on each side of the rubber bushing. If your pic is right, I'll get to redo that FUN job.

Yes, according to the pic in the Moss catalog, it looks like the fiber washers go either side of the rubber bushing, but the fit wasn't quite right, and having the washers there does not isolate the heat from the rubber bushing as well as having them placed either side of the black piece which is rigidly bolted to the exhaust (via the two hemispherical clamp pieces.)

Just re-did mine to replace the rubber parts which were cracking - you did it correctly.

I found that I was getting a rattle where the tail pipe goes, so my muffler guy fabricated a "half-moon" to go in there - and the rattle stopped right away.

Just installed it and took a test-ride to the grocery store.

Good News: it installed easily and fit well

Bad News: The intermittent rumble I get when I let off the accelerator at 40MPH or so is still there.

Dang, I was hoping for an easy fix. I went back under and checked the driveshaft and it seems that my front U-joint has some noticeable play in it as well as considerable slop in the yoke/spline.

Poop.

I believe the two fibre washers go together on top of the top metal part.

Brian. The two washers go on either side of the steel strap to isolate it's transferred heat from the rubber spacer.

You're right Kelvin. I couldn't tell the top washer was metal since it was covered with undercoating. A check with a magnet confirmed you are correct.

Thanks,

Brian
