My car has an added light above the stock rear light. I am wondering how best to wire these lights (I didn't record how they were wired accurately enough just to duplicate it) I am thinking I should leave the red wire to the stock tail lights and connect the White-stripe wires to the added lights, am I correct in understanding that the white-stripe controls both the turn signal and the brake lights? Could I use a double bullet connector on the white-stripe wire and connect to both the stock light and the added red lights or would that make the lights too dim? Both bulbs on each side have double filaments

Rodger, it sorta depends on why the extra light was put there in the first place. Is it a separate turn light? That would seem the most logical choice. Doubling up on a wire with a double snap should not be a problem.
If I'm not mistaken, those were added to Australian market cars upon import to be used strictly as a turn signal, so it would need the turn signal power feed and a ground wire. With that said, you can wire them so both lights do the same thing - brake and turn signal lights if you prefer.

Hi Jeff - one of my cars has these on the rear and the other doesen't. The one that doesn't is definitely and Australian delivered car, but the one that does may have been a personal import from the UK. Not sure.
Either way, I don't think that they were fitted as original equipment in Aus. To put it another way, I have seen a lot of Magnettes here, and they all seem to be a bit different in this department.
Personally, I am more comfortable driving the car with them in modern traffic as most drivers woudn't notice semaphores alone.
John.
Interesting. I assumed all the Aussie cars got them, since it seems to be the only market they're used in. Not too common here unless someone is trying not to use the factory relay panel.
I would be inclined to put amber lenses in them and wire them to the turn signals..
I believe this is what you are looking for...
The rear indicator mounted in this manner is not necessarily an Aussie thing. It did have (30 years ago) small rubber pods mounting indicator lenses in this location which I have seen on English cars. I fabricated these from mild steel tube and welded them in place 20 years or so ago.
Jeff,
These were not added to Australian cars, they used semaphores except for the Varitones. These were added by owners (such as me!).
Regards,
David
