I am in the midst of replacing rubber bushings in the rear suspension, and when I parked the 67 for the winter I had noted that the rear was clunking on bumps... I have the rear springs removed, but noted that the link from the spring to the shock arm was quite loose...in fact a quick turn of the nut and the stud snapped cleanly off where it goes through the shock arm... I have the shock out of the car and in the vise on the bench...
HELP!
How do I get the link stud out of the shock arm??? is it threaded into the arm? I attempted a set of vice grips on the exposed part of the stud ( the rubber bushing is so perished its easy to get at the stud but it doesnt turn....yet...I have sprayed the threads with some easing compound we use at work...
suggestions will be most welcome...I will now go to the Moss and VB catalogues and shop for replacement links....might as well do both sides right??
rear shock assistance please

Joe,
A Few gentle or more than gentle taps with a BFH along with having the arm in a vise should get it out after soaking.
All the rubber inside mine was gone and the nut just turned. I tried vice grips, wedges, nothing worked. Finally, I borrowed my neighbor's sawzall, put a piece of metal under where I was going to saw so I didn't damage anything and cut off the bolt.
Good luck.
so just to clarify...it doesnt thread into the arm??? Like the idea of getting frustrations out with a BFH but that would be a little tough on the shock arm if the stud was threaded into it! LOL
Joe I just took mine apart today. Luckily I did not have the threaded portion snapped off. I used my vice and opened the jaws enough so that it supported the eye of the shock arm. Then I use a CRC product called Freeze off. If it is stuck this stuff will get it unstuck. After spraying my part for 3 seconds I screwed a nut to the top of the thread and gave it a whack with a ball peen hammer. Came right out. Since yours is snapped off use a flathead punch that is as large as you can get and still pass through the hole. Give it a smack and it should come right off.
It will pop right out if you clamp the arm in a vice in a way that the end of the arm is sticking out. Hit the end of the arm, not the stud as is shown in the above picture. By hitting the end you will cause the tapper to release, and it will fall out. This is the same thing I do to pop a tie rod end out of the controle arm on the front end.
Gentlemen thank-you! Pictures of the exact problems and suggestions as to how best to fix it...where else can you find a group of people with all the knowledge you need and willing to share it!
The value of this website is amazing...Cheers...will have breakfast fire up the furnace and get into the garage...Daytona starts at 11:30 mountain so I have to work quickly LOL....
