Could someone list the necessary actions needed to do this along with things to be careful of. I'd like to do it myself, but not sure I have all the tools necessary. Thanks.

Buy the appropriate Bentley shop manual too!
That procedure is pretty much the way I do it - but I do disconnect the left side brake line - so bleeding is required.
I would add one tip - once you have pulled the pinion pin, clean it and put it in the freezer! It makes re-installation a little easier! Also, you may need gasket remover to get the old gasket off the casing!
Parts list:
Thrust washers - 2xFiber, 2xCopper
Differential Gasket
Gasket sealant (I use Hylomar)
Roll pin
Axle oil
Brake fluid
Split pin for parking brake
Split pin for axle nut
It is also a good time to examine the rear brakes and oil seals - repair/replace as required! I also replaced bot the drain and fill plugs - the new ones are hex sockets instead of the square ones and are MUCH easier to work with!
Here's a pictorial of the proceedure from Chicagoland MG Club. You will need a 1 5/16 thin walled socket if you have wire wheels. I couldn't find one in my area so I had a Sears 3/4 drive socket machined down to fit into hub.

Oooh, good on ya. Yes, I do have wire wheels. I have the socket, but don't know if it's thin-walled or not. Thanks
