Replacing My Rockers...ALL OF THEM!

After cutting the rear qtr panel the extract the old rocker and get to the others...Now I have figured out that I need to cut the floor pan just a bit so I can replace the carrige rails! Of course the jacking points need replaced etc. but my question is...How do I make a continuos weld along the seams where the three panels meet?

I have not even purchased a welding machine yet, for this reason, which is the best type for this applicatiuon? MIG or TIG? Is there a better type?

I would let the pros do it but my checkbook wont so any tips would help!

Doing it yourself...is'nt that why most people who really appreciate an automobile are so enthusiastic about their car!? Anyone can buy a good car for a price but if you do it yourself then thats YOUR car!

Did you at least get the books before you jumped in and cut?
There are some inexpensive 110 v. wire feed welders that body shops use for panels.
MIG welding is suggested as best.
I believe you would want to start by tack welding every so often and not do a continuous weld, followed by spot welding in the door opening, with seem welding to the front and rear.

Erik, go to www.dogpile.com, it's whale of a search engine, and put in Mig Welders. I'm in the same boat as you about welders, but learned more about them on the net than I ever imagined. Guys who use gas migs hate cored wire migs, but I've settled on cored wire after seeing an overall picture of things. Besides, I've never used either type, will never know the difference, and should do ok. I have my eye on a 150 amp with six heat settings that costs $330.00; it's made by Clark. locally it' sold by a big country store I go by every two weeks on my parts sales run. Can't find it on the web.
