I have a 67 with wires. I have noticed the onset of a creaking noise
that comes per revolution of the wheel. I put the car on a ramp yesterday
and put in what appeared to be some needed grease. I did have the wheel
loaded and reading more since then I guess I should have had the wheel
unloaded, I do not know if that makes much of a difference. Looking for
ideas here. I have new (1 year) bushings, good shocks, the king pins
where redone within 10k miles. I just changed over this to heavier 15
inch wires, running new Dunlop SP20's 165/15 mounted on a used but very
good specialty shop balanced wheel.

My guess is that you have one or more spokes loose. Take a metal tool of some sort like an open end wrench, and tap each spoke to make sure they all sound about the same. If you run across ones that have a dull sound to them, those are the ones that are loose. There is a good write up on I believe Skye's MGB Experience on how to true wire wheels. Good Luck.

Someone mentioned that already on the yahoo groups list. Good idea, but I went out and they seem fine. One more clue is that the noise comes on after being on the road for a small bit. I do not have it when starting out. I checked on our long drive in forward and reverse.

The only other thing I can think of without getting into something more complicated, would be the radial tire. You could try swapping your tires front to back on the right side, or putting on the spare? See if the noise transfers to the rear, or goes away. If so, I would suspect that the new tire has something going on with the steel belt.

ahh, good idea. I was going to jack up the front of the car anyways so I can put it on the left front which will make it easier to hear from the driver's side. Thanks.

Make sure you tires aren't directional. Most tire manufactors are making them that way now. Look at the side wall and see if it has an arrow or something indecating the rotation.
