Well I saw the picture, WOW...Now what I need to know is how do I take care of fixing those chips..Budsmith
There are some real small dobbers for touch up that you can use. E-Z Dabber by E-Z Mix #78000.
Get a paint store to mix you up some paint to match your paint.
You will need to clean the entire area and the chips very well. Then dab the paint on with the torn end of a paper matchstick or a dabber as Chris suggests. Use a few thin layers to build the paint up so it's higher than the surrounding good paint, creating a bump of paint.
After it's completely dry, use a NEW single edge razor blade held perpendicular to the surface to very slowly scrape the paint down till it's almost flush with the surface. Be careful to only scrape the paint in the chip and not the surrounding paint. If you think your hand isn't steady enough to use the razor blade without touching the good paint, wrap each end of the blade with masking tape leaving only a small part in the center of the blade showing. Use this center section to scrape the paint bump.
After all the chips are done, BLOCK sand the entire area with at least 800 grit wet/dry paper to get the surface perfectly flat. Then high speed polish the panel.
If done right you will not see the chips (assuming the paint is a match). BUT...if you've never done it before it's very easy to make a mess of things, especially when it comes to using the razor blade. And with the amount of chips shown in your photo I personally would just respray the area since it's low on the car and shouldn't be that noticeable and would take less time.
If you have any doubts about your ability to do it this way, DON'T DO IT!
Buddy, where are we looking it? Is it a front valance? If so, it is quite easy to take of the car (just start taking the bolts of), so You might want to consider just block send the whole valance and respray. If this is however a part that is more part of the whole appearance of the car, I would follow Emil's suggestions.
Good luck!
Thanks guys, I think Ill give it a try..It is not real noticeably as it on the lower part of the fender...., but I want it to be right...Bud
