I originally posted this on the Midget forum but its awfully quiet over there, so I thought I'd run it here since I think the switches are the same and the dashes are very similar.
The headlight switch on my 73 Midget seems to have disintegrated - the rocker is flopping loosely and you can feel the rest of the switch loose behind the dash.
My question (actually 2 questions) is: 1) how do I remove the switch from the dash? and 2) is there any way with a multimeter to check a new switch before installing it (I picked up a used one at Carlisle last weekend).
A third question just ocurred to me, too - what wires go where on the light switch? The one I bought has 3 lugs and is supposedly for a 73 Midget.
Thanks in advance.

#1 There are some tabs on the switch body that you have to squeeze together to get the switch out.
#2 With switch 'off' there should be no continuity between 'power in' tab (probably the one separate from the other two) and either of the two other tabs. Because the switch operates park lights and head lights, there should be continuity between the 'power in' tab and the park light tab when switch is half way on and then continuity to both tabs when switch is full on. [on the wiring diagram the power in tab appears to be the middle tab]
#3 Check your wiring diagram for what colours go where. Power in - brown, park lights- red/green, headlights- blue

Jack,
Here's a file shot of mine from a 74B (taken in a mirror). The tabs on the sides of the black plastic surround need to be pryed outward and back to release the switch.
Jack,
Here's an old file shot of mine - 74 MGB - taken from behind the dash with a mirror. The lighted black surround clip is released by prying out the sides and pulling it back to release the switch. Need a small screwdriver or long fingernails. Try one side at first and the wiggle the other side out. BTW the leads and wiring is correct for my car.
Hope this helps.
