From the usual MG tinkering I'm finding I've created a fair amount of light scatches along the front fenders.
Yes I've always put some sort of towel or soft material in my failed attempts to stop damaging the poor car.
Anyways, looking for some advice in buffing them out.
types of compounds available and best wax.
I'm a little concerned about buffing my way straight to a shiny bare metal finish.

I prefer 3M and Meguires products. If the scratches are light, low buffer speed, avoid edges and use a polish compound rather then buffing compound. If you keep the surface wet (water), you'll avoid burning the paint.
First off, I don't use fender covers. They could be your problem with getting scraches. If buffing does do it . Get some 1500 and 2000 grit wet paper and wet sand the area. Don't use ang pressure and use plenty of water. Then buff out with meguires #1 first then #2 to polish out. This is considering that you have good paint base to work with. If it is factory you have nothing to worry about. One thing the Brits did was put plenty of color on their cars.
I use hand glazing compound on my black truck and my vermillion MG and it does a really nice job on VERY light scratches and swirl marks caused by polishing compound. Got it at NAPA.
I'm glad I read your response. I was finally going to get myself a fender protector pad, but I guess I won't do it now
Thanks
Pete
My mom use to have some kind of passion for getting scratches on her car and would always call me to remove them, eventually I got tired of the ol' sand and buff, and I snapped one day and got some of that colored wax, I was actually surprized at how well the car looked after I used it, where it really did well was with concealing paint halo's and scratching that shows from years of running your car through the automatic car wash. It's long lasting, but don't expect it to get rid of deep scratches.
You can get the same results by mixing a little paint in regular wax. Thats an old use car lot trick.
