I went to 3 upholstery shops today to get quotes on having my seats recovered with cloth instead of vinyl. Just the seat backs and bottoms, no headrests. Two places wanted $500, the other wanted $600. I thought it would be cheaper than that!! I can get factory type covers from Moss and other places for around $400, but I don't want vinyl. Does anyone know of any other options... I'm considering doing it myself, but don't want it to look like I did!

My upholstery guy has always said that he can't work as cheap as a Moss kit. The last set of seats that I had got dumped on him because after 10 years of doing them, I couldn't get these right. He had fits for a day but finally produced passable results. That cost me $200 on top of the Moss covers. Most Moss covers don't have those issues, but unless you get the right year, you will get vinyl.

I don't understand why upholstery shops get such big bucks.

a simple job seems like a BMW head gasket replacement! (book I have says 30 hours...I think it's wrong, but.,..)

The prices quoted are pretty fair. My father's an upholsterer, and that's what he says is about right. Here in Chicago, I was quoted $900 to do both seats in vinyl. Ouch.

Ya, absolutely.

eBay sells really nice LEATHER seat covers for around 3-4 hundred bucks.

I took it in the shorts and paid about $1100 back a few years ago and got the COMPLETE seat set from Moss. I love them. But, that was everything, I needed frames, cushions, webbing, etc.

They look fabulous.

I think that you can get BRAND NEW LEATHER kits from Prestige for around 4-5 bills.

It's VERY, VERY EASY to do yourself.

Anybody ever buy from this place, if so, hows the quality? Seems pretty cheap, I guess that price is for a pair....

Is that price for the pair? Even so, seems a bit pricey for cloth seat covers.

It can be. When stuff doesn't fit though, you had better have a steamer and other specialized goodies to make it fit. And that is when I send it to a professional who does nothing but.

I thought Moss sold cloth seat covers? They're listed for the BGT, but the seats
are the same on the roadster so they'll fit just fine. I prefer cloth, though I do like
leather.

I am right in the middle of fitting Moss leather covers with new diaphrams, foams, etc. in my '64 MGB roadster. I wouldn't say it is easy, but I am getting it done including repainting the frames. Of course, I have no headrests, no handles, etc. like the newer cars have. I am adding some extra foam and lumbar support so that is taking some extra time. I got the Moss covers from one of their independent dealers who posts here during the big sale last year so I got a good price on those. Same thing this year for the foams and diaphrams.

I have never done any upholstery work so I am learning as I go.

Go with leather and not cloth. Leather breathes better than vinyl and is much more comfortable. To me, cloth seats don't look right in any LBC.

Hmm, find a cheap pair of Fiero seats and talk to Mr. Mike, he is now doing the covers in cloth only on request. I believe it would end up cheaper than having an upholstery shop do them.

You are correct. They list seats for 73-76 in fabric. The black p/n is 641-680.

There is a set of GT seats in the B parts car and they are fabric, they weren't bolted in so I am not sure if they really fit the B. But if they do could those be an option?

There was also someone who posted about having covers made from synthetic suede, supposed to breathe well and have good grip like cloth but be more durable like vinyl. I’m sure if you search for a while you could find the post. BTW they looked really good and I don’t think they were too expensive.
