I am in the process of getting a new transmission put in my 63 B, I am not sure what to do with the old one, it is the original3 synchro. Should I have it rebuilt and try to sell it? Is it going to be worth the cost of the rebuild to have it done and sell? Or should I try to sell it for parts? Also, how much would would a rebuilt transmission sell for? thanks for the help, im still pretty new to everything.

In my opinion, you wouldn't get your money back, Josh. Standard trannys don't sell for much.

Sell it 'as is' or not at all. They are worth between $50 and $100. $50 if the condition is unknown and $100 if it is rebuilt. The problem is they are so cheap they often aren't worth the cost of shipping. Lots of people give them away just to get the hulk out of their garage.

Just give it away to someone that needs/wants one.. That is all they are worth.

Or keep it and tear it apart and teach yourself how to rebuild it. If it doesn't work, you're out nothing. If it does, you've just gained a valuble skill.

Is there anything wrong with the unit, aside from it being a 3 sync? I kept my original to rebuild, just in case.

Where can I get one of those rebuilt transmissions for $100? I could really use one, mine is getting pretty noisy!

If you are so inclined, and if you have time to do such a thing, may I suggest that you clean it up and tear it down and rebuild it as a good learning tool if nothing else. If the rebuild is succesful and it should be if done properly, then I would think that you could regain the money invested in it. Of course your time would not be compensated for but you would have a great deal of fun and gain an insight into how the box functions internally.

The original old 3 synchro units had a small spigot bushing and were the least durable of the 3 synchros. The layshaft was too small, the 2nd gear synchro was brass and wore out quickly, and first gear was prone to chipped teeth from people not knowing how to treat them. They are a good transmission to rebuild as a first one because they only require some brass drifts as special tools. If 1st gear and the laygear aren't chipped then you will only need an input shaft bearing. The needle bearings that go in the input shaft, a layshaft and its bearings, 2nd gear synchro, a gasket set and front and rear seals. Since it is one of the very early ones I would think it would be worth more money
