As my Rivergate conversion wraps up, one thing that is clear is that I'll need a different shift boot. My Nissan gearshift lever is from an '80 Z and it's more slender than those from the 81-83 cars. As such, my current shift boot (which I think is from a MkII B, is too large.
Does anyone know if the MkI gearshift has a smaller OD than the MkII lever? If anyone is willing to mic up their MkI lever for me, I'd really appreciate that too. That way I could compare it to the Nissan and the MkII lever that I removed and make an educated guess about whether the MkI boot will fit before I order it and the retaining ring.
Thanks!
Terry S.

Its easy to make a new boot if you or someone in your family has a sewing machine. I took my old boot off, carefully cut the stitches with a razor blade, and used it as a pattern to cut new vinyl from a sewing shop. My kind wife then stitched it together for me. Total cost was about $4 and I got enough vinyl to make about 5 of them!
I imagine you could use your old one as a pattern and just lengthen it to suit the new lever.

Hi Jack, Thanks for the good suggestion. I am seriously considering the vinyl or leather boot option like those found on later cars. Mine currently has the accordian style rubber boot typically found on the earlier ('60s) cars.
